Description

Sweet Chili Crisp Chicken Bites are flavorful, crispy pieces of chicken tossed in a sweet and spicy chili sauce, garnished with fresh green onions. This easy skillet recipe combines sesame oil, lime juice, and honey with chili crisp for a perfect balance of heat and sweetness, making it an irresistible appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast or chicken thighs, cut into 12 inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (divided: 1 tablespoon for marinade, 1 tablespoon for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Sweet Chili Crisp Sauce

  • ¼ cup chili crisp
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (for cooking)

Garnish

  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized 1-2 inch pieces. In a bowl or zip-top bag, combine the chicken with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of lime juice, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly so the chicken pieces are evenly coated with the marinade.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the chili crisp, honey, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of lime juice. Set this sweet chili crisp sauce aside until the chicken is cooked.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon sesame oil to the pan. Place the chicken pieces in the hot skillet, allowing them to cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to develop a sear. Then stir and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes until the chicken is almost cooked through.
  4. Toss with Sauce: Pour the prepared sweet chili crisp sauce over the chicken in the skillet. Toss well to coat all the pieces evenly. Continue cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce is slightly thickened and glossy. Remove from heat.
  5. Serve: Garnish the sweet chili crisp chicken bites with thinly sliced green onions. Serve warm immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For juicier chicken, use thighs instead of breasts.
  • Adjust the amount of chili crisp depending on your spice tolerance.
  • Serve with steamed rice or as a flavorful appetizer.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To make it gluten-free, ensure the chili crisp and other sauces used do not contain gluten.
