Scale
Main Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers (any color)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Chopped parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare it for baking the stuffed peppers.
- Prepare Bell Peppers: Cut the tops off the bell peppers and carefully remove the seeds and membranes. Place the peppers upright in a baking dish, ready to be filled.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, then drain any excess fat.
- Season Meat Mixture: Stir in salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce into the cooked beef mixture. Mix well and remove from heat.
- Stuff Peppers: Fill each bell pepper with the beef and onion mixture, packing the filling firmly inside each pepper.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded provolone cheese generously on top of each stuffed pepper.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the peppers to soften.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired for a fresh touch.
Notes
- You can use any color of bell pepper based on your preference; red, yellow, or orange offer a sweeter flavor while green gives a slightly bitter bite.
- To reduce fat content, consider using lean ground beef or substituting with ground turkey or chicken.
- For a cheesier variation, blend provolone with mozzarella or add a sprinkle of Parmesan on top before baking.
- Be careful not to overcook peppers in step 8; they should be tender but still hold their shape.
- For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
