Beside the sandwich, there are pale yellow potato chips with a light, crispy texture, a few bright green sliced pickles with ridges, and rings of crisp, white onion. Ingredients

  • 4 lb trimmed brisket
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 sesame seed buns
  • 1 bottle barbecue sauce (we used Bullseye)
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 10 pickles for topping
  • 1/2 onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Place the brisket in the Instant Pot. Pour in the water and Worcestershire sauce, then sprinkle the cracked black pepper on top. Close the lid and set the pressure cooker to manual/high pressure for 60 minutes. Once done, carefully release the pressure.
  2. Step 2: Using forks, shred as much of the brisket as you can directly into the broth in the pot. Then, set the Instant Pot to manual/high pressure for another 60 minutes to finish cooking. Release the pressure once complete.
  3. Step 3: Shred the brisket thoroughly with forks and mix well with the barbecue sauce.
  4. Step 4: Serve the sauced brisket on sesame seed buns, topped with sliced onions and pickles. Pair with your favorite side dish or chips.

Tips & Variations

  • For extra flavor, marinate the brisket with Worcestershire sauce and pepper for a few hours before cooking.
  • Add a little smoked paprika or chipotle powder to the barbecue sauce for a smoky kick.
  • Try topping your sandwich with coleslaw instead of pickles for a creamy crunch.

Storage

Store leftover brisket and sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water to keep it moist. For longer storage, freeze cooked brisket for up to 3 months and thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.

How to Serve

A white plate holds a sandwich with a sesame seed bun, the bottom layer showing soft bread topped with a generous pile of shredded, saucy brown meat that looks tender and juicy. Next to the sandwich, there are crisp, thin, pale yellow potato chips, a few bright green ridged pickle slices, and a small stack of raw, white onion rings placed near the edge of the plate. The plate is set on a red and white checkered tablecloth, and the scene is bright and clear. photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

FAQs

Can I use a different cut of meat instead of brisket?

Yes, you can use chuck roast or other tougher cuts that benefit from slow cooking. Cooking times may vary slightly.

Do I need to shred the brisket twice during cooking?

Shredding partway through helps the meat absorb flavors and become tender faster, but if you prefer, you can cook it fully before shredding once.
