Cinnamon Sugar Scones Recipe

  • Author: Jack
  • Total Time: 22-24 minutes
  • Yield: 12 scones 1x

Description

Deliciously tender and flaky cinnamon sugar scones that are easy to make and perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack. These scones feature a soft, creamy texture with a sweet cinnamon sugar coating for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425˚F (220˚C) to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the scones.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well incorporated for an even distribution of leavening and sweetness.
  3. Form the Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the heavy cream into it. Gently mix until the dough just comes together; it should be cohesive but not too sticky to handle.
  4. Shape and Cut Dough: On a floured surface, divide the dough into two equal portions. Shape each half into a disc about 1.5 to 2 inches thick. Use a knife to cut each disc into six equal triangles like slicing a pizza.
  5. Arrange and Bake: Place each scone triangle onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the centers are firm and the edges turn golden brown.
  6. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: While the scones are baking, mix together the cinnamon and granulated sugar in a small bowl to create the cinnamon sugar coating.
  7. Coat Scones: Once baked, allow the scones to cool for about 5 minutes so they’re warm but manageable. Then, either toss the scones in the cinnamon sugar mixture or place the sugar in a large zip-top bag and gently shake each scone inside to coat evenly with the cinnamon sugar.

Notes

  • For best results, do not overmix the dough to keep the scones tender and flaky.
  • You can substitute heavy cream with buttermilk for a slightly tangier flavor.
  • Serve warm for the optimal cinnamon sugar coating experience.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving to regain softness.
