Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1.5 cups heavy cream
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425˚F (220˚C) to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the scones.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well incorporated for an even distribution of leavening and sweetness.
- Form the Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the heavy cream into it. Gently mix until the dough just comes together; it should be cohesive but not too sticky to handle.
- Shape and Cut Dough: On a floured surface, divide the dough into two equal portions. Shape each half into a disc about 1.5 to 2 inches thick. Use a knife to cut each disc into six equal triangles like slicing a pizza.
- Arrange and Bake: Place each scone triangle onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the centers are firm and the edges turn golden brown.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: While the scones are baking, mix together the cinnamon and granulated sugar in a small bowl to create the cinnamon sugar coating.
- Coat Scones: Once baked, allow the scones to cool for about 5 minutes so they’re warm but manageable. Then, either toss the scones in the cinnamon sugar mixture or place the sugar in a large zip-top bag and gently shake each scone inside to coat evenly with the cinnamon sugar.
Notes
- For best results, do not overmix the dough to keep the scones tender and flaky.
- You can substitute heavy cream with buttermilk for a slightly tangier flavor.
- Serve warm for the optimal cinnamon sugar coating experience.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving to regain softness.
